Up late working on my solo project

Last night I was up late editing my solo project. I'm kind of working things out as I go, but I've got 10 tracks in various stages of completion. After we've got the Grave Forsaken album released I'm going to start making plans to get this project released as well. I will probably do something similar to the Gregory Salmela Project album where I release it myself on Grave Forsaken Records. All that's in the future, but for now I'm definitely enjoying myself working on it.

Solo project progressing

It's a wintry Sunday here in Perth, so after my morning run I decided to do some more track editing on my solo project. It's coming along nicely and pretty soon I'll be at the point where I need some of my guest players to come in and put down some parts. I'm really enjoying the process of putting this together.

Up bright and early

I've got a very busy day today, so I've got up early to get some band work done. As well as my usual updates, I'm going to do a little bit of editing on my solo project. I might be meeting up with Elias for a rehearsal this evening, so that will be good if it ends up happening. I always enjoy the opportunity to jam, especially as it has been a little infrequent in recent times. I have a definite goal to get the band back onstage at some point in the not too distant future, so every little bit helps! I hope you all have a great day and I'll check in again tomorrow.

Solo project work continues

Tonight will give me another opportunity to spend some time working on my solo project. I've been mainly getting the arrangements finalised so I'm ready to record my guitars properly. I've demoed all the tracks, but the guitars are those are guides and I've decided to re record all of them once I've determined which tone I'll use. It's a bit daunting recording an entire album at my home but I'm enjoying the challenge and no doubt I'll pick up a lot along the way.

More work on "One True Way"

I've had a busy day at work, but I'm going to spend some time working on my solo project tonight once the kids have settled down!. I'm enjoying just doing a bit each day at the moment. Other than that it's been a quiet day on the music front, not much time to rock when you've got to work to feed the family and pay the bills! It's a really wet day here in Perth and there's not much I love more than being comfortable in the house with the sound of rain outside. Hope you're having a great day also.

Got up early, working on "One True Way"

This morning I got up a bit earlier and spent some time working on "One True Way", a track from my solo project. It's a three and a half minute straight ahead metal song that could easily be recorded as a Grave Forsaken song. I'm finding most, if not all, of the solo project material could work in the context of Grave Forsaken. The solo aspect of the project probably has more to do with the way I'm recording it and organising things than the actual music itself, if that makes sense. The same could be said of the Gregory Salmela Project album from last year. I think all of those songs would have worked in the context of Grave Forsaken if the whole band had been involved in the recording. Whatever the case, I'm enjoying the process!

Out all day today

This morning I ran the Perth Half Marathon then we had lunch with my side of the family in the afternoon. I've only just got home and I'm spent! When I get a chance tomorrow I plan to do some more work on my solo project. I'm really enjoying plugging away on that right now. I'll catch you again soon.

Working on solo project

Hi all, today I've just been continuing with my solo project. I figure that if I just plug away a bit each day then inevitably the project will get done over time. I t can be daunting when viewing a project as a whole, so sometimes you've just got to break it down and do it in little chunks over an extended period of time. I'm enjoying working on the project. It's allowing me to try different things without worrying about whether they fit into Grave Forsaken. Having said that, I'm sure this will end up sounding similar to Grave Forsaken regardless.

RIP Sherri Ross

I was saddened today to hear that Sherri Ross has passed away. Sherri needs no introduction in the Christian metal scene, she was one of the great people in our community. She diligently and faithfully worked with Mortification and Ultimatum and was a huge support for many bands, including Grave Forsaken. There was a time when Sherri would be the first to like or comment on nearly anything I posted regarding Grave Forsaken. She really did love the Lord and her Christian metal. She was also a great encouragement, always remaining positive even when things weren't so great. Unfortunately she lost her cancer battle today and she leaves a loving family. She's gone to heaven now but we here on Earth will miss her dearly. RIP Sherri, thanks for everything.

Elias heading over for a jam

This evening I've got Elias heading over to my place for a jam. We're slowly but surely working on getting ourselves back up to speed after a fair bit of time spent on studio work. I'm really looking forward to it and I'll let you know how it goes.

Going to do some editing

Tonight I'm going to do some track editing on my solo project. I try to get a little bit done whenever I get the opportunity and tonight I've got some free time. I've been quite focused on the Grave Forsaken album release lately, but I'm keen to keep plugging away on my solo project. I hope you're all having a great day and I'll check in again tomorrow.

Gregory Salmela Project - Fallen From Grace

I'm sharing another Gregory Salmela Project song today. This one is "Fallen From Grace" and it is about facing judgement from others, both within and outside the church. There's always times we have a difference of opinion and sometimes people can use this against us. This song is really just saying it's OK to disagree, but we don't need to go pointing fingers at each other. Sometimes the most hurtful criticism can come from within the church. We're really about unity in the body of Christ, and accepting differences of opinion. That's why we generally try to positive in our outlook. As Christians, we're all on the same side.

Catching up with Elias and Tim

Hi all. Yesterday I had the great opportunity to catch up with Tim and Elias in the afternoon. My wife had organised it for my birthday, which was a really nice gesture. She had invited Matt and Luke as well by the couldn't make it. Our shared experiences in the band over the years means Elias, Tim and myself have a close bond, so it was great to share a few laughs and have a good chat yesterday.

Good times!

Gregory Salmela Project - Why Can't We All Just Get Along

Hi all, today I'm sharing another track from last year's Gregory Salmela Project album. This one is "Why Can't We All Just Get Along". The song meaning is pretty self explanatory from the title, and it's one I always enjoyed from this project.

Have a listen and see what you think!

My birthday today

Today was my birthday so I spent it with my family. We had a great day but it meant I didn't get any band stuff done. I hope to work on a few bits and pieces tomorrow.

Original EP artwork and master submitted

Today I made a trip out to diskbank near the CBD and submitted the artwork and master for our original EP reprint. I know I mentioned this yesterday but I'm pretty excited to finally get it into production. I've been considering doing this for years! If you're keen on a copy I'll let you know the details when I have them in my hands. Whatever the case, they won't be pricey. Stay tuned!

Original EP physical copy

Hi all. I'm getting some new physical copies of the original 2005 EP made up. The original was a handmade release so this will be an improvement. They will be in cardboard sleeves and I'll post details when I have the copies. I'm submitting the artwork and disc tomorrow so they shouldn't be too far off. Exciting to finally do this!

Good progress on the new album release

You'll be pleased to know the new album release is progressing nicely. The booklet is basically done and we're not all that far off. I'm hopeful we can announce a release date in the relatively near future. Like I've been saying for a while, I'm really looking forward to getting this release out there, you'll love it!

Experimenting with Facebook video

You will have noticed I've been doing my best to bring you regular updates on this site and our Facebook site. Over the years I've never really used Facebook video and I probably should have been. I posted a short video yesterday and I'm going to continue to post them regularly. Keep an eye out for those from now on!

Gregory Salmela Project - I Don't Know What Tomorrow Brings

A little more today on Gregory Salmela Project. Today I'm sharing the second track from our 2016 album "I Don't Know What Tomorrow Brings". This song was written by Elias and I always enjoyed vibe created by the song. You can listen to the song on youtube, as you can with all the tracks on the album.

Elias and I were very pleased to get this album released last year on Grave Forsaken Records. It took a long time and we went through many discussions about how to present the songs. It's awesome that they're out there to share with you.

Solo project work continues

This afternoon I'm spending a bit of time working on my solo project. Like I've mentioned before, I don't to spend too long on this project, so I'm trying to get as much done when I can. It will still be a while off yet but I know I will get there if I keep plugging away.
