I distinctly remember the occasion in 1994 when I first became officially involved in Christian metal. Chris drove by my house in East Fremantle and mentioned that Youth Group was having a talent night on the upcoming Friday night. He asked if I would be interested in playing drums while he played guitar and sung vocals. he had an original song written called "The Devil Won't Win". We had discussed the possibility of forming a band before, but this was first time we would get a chance to enact the plan and perform. I eagerly agreed and we arranged to meet at the church on Friday afternoon to practice. From memory this was sometime around April 1994.

It was early 1994 when my friend Chris introduced me to Christian metal. We felt convicted to stop listening to secular music and start listening to only Christian metal and rock. The first CD Chris bought was "Snakes in the Playground" by Bride. He played it to me and I was hooked on the genre. It wasn't long after that I went into Word bookstore and got myself a copy of "Peace Treaty" by X-Sinner. It was the first of many Christian metal tapes and CDs that I would by over the coming years.

By this time I had been playing drums for 2 years. I wasn't very good but I could hold a rock beat. Chris had been playing guitar for a number of years and had started writing his own material. It was only natural that we would start discussing forming a Christian metal band of our own. We felt isolated from the US scene in Western Australia and really believed it should be our ministry.

Hi all, Vaughan here. On this page I'm going to attempt to write the history of Grave Forsaken a paragraph or two at a time. It will be my memories mainly and I will attempt to add a new post regularly. I'm going to start at the beginning and then pick up the story with each post. It will be a relatively informal account that is consistent with my interpretation of our history. I will be honest, so there may be revelations that will surprise some people. We will see.

The story of Grave Forsaken essentially began in 1994. It would be another 10 years before we became Grave Forsaken, but there was a critical turning point in 1994 when I played my first ever Christian metal gig. I was attending Bicton Uniting Church at the time and they had a decent sized youth group. Not massive, but big enough to be a viable entity. One of my best friends at the time was a guy named Chris Grieves. We had a mutual love of heavy metal and hard rock, and he introduced me to Christian metal in early 1994. It was an introduction that changed my life...
